Bright colors inside and out — Checkers Fast-Food Drive-Ins want to be noticed.
Perhaps this pandering for my attention is why it was twenty-five years before I walked into the Checkers lobby at the corner of Philly Pike and Lea Boulevard here in Wilmington, Delaware. If ad execs and copy writers want me to do something, like purchase their Classic Slushies, I back away. Or I did. Something has changed for me. The vivid colors and the rippling flags now seem outdated to me, even quaint. They no longer pretend to be old-fashioned, they actually are old-fashioned, a piece of faux-Americana that has become real Americana. So I went in. Visually, the place is a feast! And the French fries are delicious.
