My friend’s oblivion was as stunning an example of blind faith as I ever experienced. At the time, I was asking everyone I knew about the truth of Christianity. My friend said, “Let’s go to my neighborhood Irish pub.” We walked from his house and into an XXX-rated topless bar. I saw the neon lights and the signs outside, but he did not. He was so intent on his upcoming testimony about his faith that he did not notice the ownership of the bar had changed. On the low stage next to the door as we entered was a woman dancing with a boa constrictor. Although he had missed the signs on the outside of the bar, he did not miss her and her snake. His eyes were opened. “I’m sorry,” he said. “The place has changed since I was last here. Shall we go somewhere else or stay?” We stayed. His witness in that odd setting and the witness of many others in other settings convinced me of the truth of Christianity, as did the fact that when I tried praying, I was sure someone was listening.
