My friends say, “I don’t know where to begin. There are piles and stacks everywhere. I am struggling. It’s embarrassing. I am overwhelmed.” Because they are talking about the clutter in their lives, it is difficult to give their complaints much sympathy. After all, nobody dies of clutter or having mucho too much of too many things. In my fantasy, none of us acquires anything without having a place to put it. In my fantasy, we respect and even honor each thing, however commonplace, not just in its acquisition but especially in its disposal. Ridiculous me, I say “Respect Your Rubbish.” Impractical me, I say “Honor Your Trash”. Silly me, I say “Make taking out the trash a ritual of thanksgiving — then tip the trash truck drivers $20 each!”
