
Henderson, a suburb of Las Vegas, is now Nevada’s second-most-populous city, in part because people like my nephew and his family moved away from California and its high real-estate prices and taxes.
We met my relatives on April 15 at the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve. The preserve is an inviting series of nine ponds and lush vegetation associated with the city’s Wastewater Reclamation Facility.
I had hoped to see American White Pelicans but was disappointed. We were there at the right time of year! Then again, I did not look very hard. By this time, my allergies had turned into bronchitis. This was Day 24 of our 8,006-mile, 23-state trip around the USA.
