There is beauty that can only be found in the landscape of suffering, of storm and stress. Unlike other travel destinations, this landscape comes to us, often suddenly. Yes, we get out of there as quick as we can but, while we are there, between our complaints and silences, we can look and listen. Elegiac beauty is in the music of the desolate desert, in the songs of the battering winds, in the lyrics of turbulent waters. Those who get away carry with them a longing to experience that beauty again. It tempts some to return and tempts some to stay there. God help us!
