This day was the first of several when we abandoned our plan to leisurely drive across the USA on back roads. Instead, we took I-40 from Hillsborough, North Carolina to Asheville in a day.
Using Google Maps got us in trouble. This began when, after looking for restaurants in Winston-Salem, my wife decided she wanted to go to Chic-Fil-A, to a restaurant not far off the interstate highway. Soon we found ourselves on the campus of Winston-Salem State University. We found ourselves driving service roads behind buildings. Eventually we came to a loading dock. “This can’t be right,” we thought. It was right. The restaurant was in the student union and the loading dock was closest to it.
We decided on Plan B — go to a Bojangles restaurant instead. Excellent, friendly service and good chicken! Next to Bojangles was this blue house and red pickup. I liked the looks of it. It made me think someone has a comfortable home and a decent life.
