
On April 30, 2023, the last day of our 39-day drive around the USA, we drove from St. Clairsville, Ohio through West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and then home to Delaware.
Because we hate the monotonous Pennsylvania Turnpike, we took the more varied and scenic southern route which includes US 40, called the National Road or the Cumberland Road, into Baltimore. The National Road was the first major improved highway in the United States built by the federal government, 1811–1837.
We were delighted to find Fuel Coffee Works in Farmington, Pennsylvania, an excellent coffee shop far from any city. Coffee culture, it seems, has reached its tentacles into every corner of our fair land. That makes me nervous … or am I nervous because I have had too much coffee?
