Yesterday, running my errands, checking off the boxes one by one, I was stopped cold. The doors to the art gallery I manage were unlocked and, try as I might, I could not lock them. The gallery was accessible to the world! What to do? My day was suddenly derailed. I was stuck. I couldn’t leave. So I called for help: the building manager. She was on her way to an appointment, not available. But she suggested calling the locksmith, the one familiar with these doors. That could take hours! As it turns out — what are the chances? — the locksmith’s storefront is next door to the gallery. I walked over, gave them the details, and was told they would take care of the problem right away. There was nothing left for me to do. Once again, I was on my way! Although my first reaction to problems is often despair, experience teaches me to anticipate an unexpected outcome; that our world, so full of difficulties, is in the care of a loving God beyond our comprehension eager to surprise us.
